The Nav and I awoke to a splendid morning, eagerly anticipating our Sunday morning ride into the countryside. After feeding the chickens, the dogs and enjoying our first cuppa, we left home at 07h15 and was met by a spectacular sunrise as we rode along Baden Powell on route to Clarence Drive. For once I was able to stop and capture the splendour!
We met up with Loekie from the KLR forum on Clarence Drive and meandered along the coast through a very misty and cold Betty's Bay/Kleinmond, over the spectacular Highlands Road on route to our breakfast stop at Peregrine. We parted ways with Loekie after breakfast and the Nav and I went in search of some adventure as we turned off onto the old railway track which runs just below Houw Hoek Pass. I last rode this track 2 years ago and it's amazing how much more experienced I am riding the technical bits after 2 years in the saddle. Even the sandy patches which I paddled through previously, was a doddle and I was left with the feeling at the end of the track - "was that it?" 2 years ago, that was a big deal for me. Sadly, Port Jacksons are invading this picturesque valley and spoils a bit of the beauty that surrounds this awesome off the beaten track!
We made our way back home via Botrivier, through Franschoek where we stopped for the usual ice cream treat, onto Durbanville via Contermanskloof, the N7 to Tokai.
