2013-01-27 Clarence Drive, Peregrine, Franschoek, Durbanville Hills

We left Tokai at 6am sharp and met up with Eric (Suzuki 650) at Bonjour and headed along a windy Baden Powell to meet up with Ben (KLR) at the Engen on the N1 near Somerset West.   An unusual pit stop for us on Clarence Drive, as our men & women in blue pulled all bikers over to check licenses and roadworthiness... there were some fairly sad looking road bikers at this unscheduled stop returning from a rally in Kleinmond.

Highlands Road presented its usual breathtaking views as we stopped at the top of the hill to capture the sights.   After breakfast at Peregrine, we set off to Botrivier via 'the Valley Rd' which was a pathway of flowers and apple orchards, just about right for the picking with beautiful views across a beautiful valley.  I can never quite get enough of this detour!

After two stops, one in Botrivier where I went ahead of the guys to take some 'action pics' and one in Franschhoek where we enjoyed our usual 'ice cream treat, we headed back home via Durbanville Hills.    I couldn't resist a final and in my opinion a compulsory stop for a windmill photograph at the farm Eenzaamheid.  It's been a while since I came across a windmill that I hadn't yet photographed and this one was a MUST!   The combination of my zesty KLR and the windmill had me thinking of other good combinations such as cheese and wine, Harry and Sally to name but a few....

The wind was threatening unscheduled lane changes on the N1 highway and it took some serious muscle power to keep the KLRs on the straight and narrow.  At times I overtook the Nav (doesn't happen often, if at all!) as I felt the need to power through the wind as opposed to being shaken around by it!

As usual a splendid ride out with good friends, the weather aside from the black south easter, was great and we enjoyed yet another day out in the countryside.
